No matter who wins Nov. 8, the next president will inherit a broken system of government. That was political journalist Ezra Klein’s sobering message to students at Graham Chapel Sept. 27, the night after the first Presidential Debate at Hofstra University.
“Someone is going to win this thing, and then they are going to have to govern,” Klein said. “I don’t know how they’re going to do that.”
Klein is founder and editor of Vox.com, a website that distills complex issues like the Syrian conflict, the Affordable Care Act and the American primary system into compelling graphics, videos and stories. He told students that American voters should focus less on the candidates and more on the structure of our democracy, and he outlined several factors currently undermining our political system.
